The CAEC (the Canadian Adult Educational Credential) is a Canadian based series of tests that replaces the GED and allows successful candidates to achieve their grade 12 equivalency. If you have some GED credits already, these will be accepted toward getting your full CAEC certificate.
What are the tests that make up the CAEC?
1. Reading
2. Writing
3. Math
4. Science
5. Social studies
-
You can take the CAEC tests if you:
Live in Nova Scotia;
Have not completed high school (grade 12);
Are 18-years-old or older;
Are not currently in school;
Are proficient in understanding and speaking the English language;
Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, permanent resident applicant with a work permit or protected person as defined in Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
-
The intake process is simple: Just give us a call at Solutions Learning Centre and you will be scheduled in to complete the 5 placement pretests; one for each subject.
These tests are usually done separately, on 5 different days, to avoid becoming overwhelmed! The results of these tests give our instructors an idea of where a new student needs to begin their academic journey.
-
CAEC tests (like the GED tests) are offered free of charge to eligible testers at computer-based testing centres through NSCC. Paper test delivery is only available in Nova Scotia Correctional Facilities.
*Calculators can be used and accommodations are available upon request.
